It depends. If your bird feeder is on a pole stuck in the ground put a piece of PVC pipe over the pole. The squirrels can not wrap their arms around the pole to climb up.

Our situation was resolved with a baffle. The two feeder poles- front and rear with baffles work fabulously...I have the $$$ Yankee Flipper motorized feeder and there no need to worry about charging it with a stationary installed baffle.
Many bird feeders with the clear bowl like topper will also worked fine, or consider put the cylinder baffle on your pole feeders.
Do you want to make your own—- here’s a link to consider if you are using a pole feeder or shepards hook. I purchased one 30 years ago and made a second one with hardware store supplies for an additional rear yard birdfeeder last year. They work very well!

Hi Barbara, Hang feeder from something the squirrels find difficult to climb (slippery Pole) or better still Overhead bracket that is too thin for them to climb. or a Wire Coat hanger.............
