How do I kill weeds without killing grass?

I recently planted grass in the front of my home. The grass grew but unfortionatly so did the weeds. They have allmost taken over and are close to REPLACEING the grass altogether. Also, there are more than 1type of weeds. I dnt want to kill my grass while in the prosess of eliminating the weeds. In addition I dont want yellow dead spots all over my lawn from the remains of dead weeds. HELP PLZ

    Brenda, how old is the grass? I believe you have to tolerate the weeds for a minimum of three months because the seed grass is too tender for a preen and green.

    I know nobody likes to use chemicals, but there are ones out there that will not harm the grass as long as it is old enough. The DIY remedies will kill the grass as well as the weeds and can change the chemistry of the soil so that nothing will grow there for a while.
