Treat the oak tree with a soil- or stem-injection insecticide in early spring to kill larvae in the tree. Imidacloprid is used for this purpose. It may be applied by drenching the soil around the tree's root collar or by injection into the soil at the root collar or directly into the trunk. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application methods.
