We tried havahart/traps not to kill them but it didn't work, only got one & @ this point there are a few.WE know they can cause serious damage & that is why we want to rid them quickly! We also know we have to find out how they are getting in.We really don't want to kill them just get rid of them as soon as possible.we called an exterminator but they want $150.00 an hour & want to kill them.Any suggestions?🐭

I had them. I kept using the have a hart trap and taking the squirrels out to the country a very long way from my home. Eventually they stopped coming to my house and went to my neighbor.

Fill in the smallest openings in the attic with steel wool--mice--squirrels--nothing will go thru steel wool--they just go the other way.

You need to block up all access points except one, and then install or have installed what is called an "exclusion tunnel" in the only access point to your attic space that the squirrels could use to get in and out. When they leave through the exclusion tunnel they will not be able to get back in, and no animal has to be killed. In some areas, it is illegal to kill a wild animal in any event, so any exterminator who says you have to kill them - may be a fraud. They will put down rat poison and charge you and arm and a leg and it's a rip off! Plus you then have to deal with a decaying animal carcass. Ugh! You can find useful information here: http://www.aaanimalcontrol.com/Professional-Trapper/squirrelridnokill.html

Final note: do an internet search for "humane animal removal" in your locality; they should be familiar with how to hunt down openings where the critters are getting in, block them for you or give you advice on how to block them, and install one exclusion tunnel for you. Good luck!

Dryer sheets can also help to keep them out. They don't like the smell. Had very good luck with good peanut butter on a cracker. Natural is best because it lacks all the additives. Place in the bottom of a large mason jar, then lay the jar on it's side somewhere near the area where you know the squirrels are. When you notice one has entered the jar cover the top quickly with a magazine or something stiff. Now you can carry them to a place for release. Only had problems with one squirrel who braced his legs on the side of the jar and wouldn't shake out until he finished the peanut butter.

I got Fox Urine from the feed store and spread it around. It comes in a squeeze bottle so you are not touching anything. I smells in the atic, but did not come into the house. It really worked.
