My husband started feeding the birds and a rat appeared, I'm so disgusting and am deathly afraid, he has stopped feeding the birds and I haven't seen the rodent since, but I am so afraid I won't do any yard work including watering my plants...How can I be sure it's gone? Please help...

OH MY!!!! I hear you! I would also give up all outside activity. We had a mouse last Fall and I thought seriously about selling the house. ;). Here are sign to look for: signs of rats By the way....we had an exterminator give us steps to remove the mouse and we were clear. Good Luck!

Hi Kim. You could put out live traps and bait them. Once they are caught release them far from your home.

  • You are a grown adult. Afraid of a silly little rat? Come on, that's ridiculous. I feed the birds too and yes you will have an occasional rat or mouse or racoon or skunk or squirrel or opossum (or at my girlfriends house, bears), show up. It's called nature. You want a real shocker? Install motion activated cameras around your yard. If you knew what was creeping around your yard at night, you would never leave the house. If there is no buffet or food source it has moved on. Don't be afraid, go out and water, work in your yard, relax and enjoy it! Life is to short to live in fear. Set up a no kill trap and bait with dollar store peanut butter.
