  • May I suggest killing it first then tearing it out? I use vinegar as I do not like to use chemicals. Drown the ivy in vinegar. May take more than one application, but it will work. Then when dead, suit up and remove it carefully.

I get poison ivy intertwined with my scuppernong vines so I can't just put/spray something on it without killing my scuppernong vines. I carefully unwind the vines from each other until the poison ivy vine long enough to lay down on the ground and get a good coverage of spray. The spray is absorbed into the leaves and eventually gets to the roots. I usually have to do this several times but my scuppernong vines are safe this way.
