Diatomaceous earth is all natural, pet safe, and will clear up ants near instantly outdoors.
I have ants that come in thru a cable outlet in my livingroom and no matter how well it is fixed, they find a way in. Since I had a dog and cat, I couldn't use anything that would hurt them. Peppermint essential oil works wonders! I use a small spray bottle and fill it 3/4 with water, add a Tablespoon of witch hazel, and about 12-15 drops of peppermint oil. Shake well before each use. You can get the oil from Amazon pretty cheap or at your local health food store (GNC). And you can also put a few drops on a cotton ball and wipe it where they are coming in.
