Hello, the only thing I will use is hot shot no pest strips. I managed a bar and the beer that was on tap brought a lot of them and this is the only thing that took care of it so I use them in my home too. Here is a link.

Spray your sinks and drains with Simple Green. It kills them. Repeat daily for a week. Do all the drains. Be sure you have no fruit sitting out uncovered. Repeat drain spray in all drain once a week for maintenance. Simple Green is a disinfectant and deodorizer but is non toxic to humans. I use it for all my cleaning. Get it in concentration at Walmart in the auto/boat/camp section. Get it in spray OR concentrate at other home improvement like Menards.

I uzs Simple Green for cleaning but never tried for the fruit flies, I have put rubbing alcohol and bleach in the drain and that seems to help but not get rid of them. Thanks for the tip I will now try SG!

I've trapped them with a small amount of bourbon & soda in a glass. I noticed that they were forever landing in my drink, so i left some out on the counter in a tall glass. They fly in and drown. It takes a couple days, but it's kind of satisfying! (I tried wine, and rum&coke, but they prefer bourbon) If you don't drink, you can just buy one of the mini sample bottles in the liquor store.

Then use Simple Green like DesertRose said to avoid any more hatching.

There are apple things you can get at Small hardware stores or put some apple vinegar and dish soap in a cup. This seems to be

happening all over. Use 1 cup of each vinegar, baking soda pour down drain then use 4 boiling hot tea kettles or pans to flush. Also pour a little toilet cleaner down your sinks and then hot water. Buildup on your pipes creates homes for these sewer flies. Fly traps and constantly doing this. Also make sure food isn’t going down drain. If you have garbage disposal same works but keep lid on it after until using. Same with drainer in sink.

I tried the Vinegar but that did not seem to work. I am working on the pipes with Hot water, Bleach and Peroxide which seems to be working and do cover the drainage holes afterwards. Thank you.

    Hello Penny,

Cleaning out the drain with a drain cleaner might help to remove the organic material the flies and larvae feed on.

The apple cider vinegar trap in the covered glass jar a cup has always worked for me. It worked two weeks ago.

    Per link below

“Get Rid of Fruitflies with a Homemade Fruit Fly Trap. Pour just enough cider vinegar to cover the bottom of the jar. Add a drop of dish soap (it will break the surface tension of the vinegar so the fruit flies can't just sit atop the liquid). Now, cover the jar with plastic wrap and poke a few holes in the top.”
