Presuming you are wanting a permanent, or at least semi-permanent, solution for this problem. I have had decent results with diesel fuel. It soaks into the ground and doesn't create the combustible fumes that car gasoline does. You could also purchase a commercial product the kills the ground and whatever is currently growing in the fence line. I have been trying to kill out some milkweed vine that is growing where it isn't wanted and was told by a nurseryman that Round Up works really well, but that is needs to be sprayed on the leaves of the plants because when it is sprayed on the ground the ground has a neutralizing effect on the product.

Please do not use fuel on the soil. It is considered a hazardous material and could get you in trouble if anyone knows you are doing this, it would be considered a hazardous spill. I don't know of anything that would be permanent kill of the grass and weeds unless you put down plastic weed barrier and rocks or mulch, that would prevent the grass or weeds from coming back. You can cut an X in the plastic and put in plants or shrubs before you put down the mulch or rocks.

Hi Mike, Salt. Salt will kill anything it comes into contact with. Some people pour hot water on after salting to make the roots receive the salt even quicker. Another method is to smother the weeds with cardboard. It will take a couple weeks to smother the grass and weeds. I hope this helps you. Good luck.

I find Roundup takes too long to work. There are faster, more eco-friendly products, or you can lay down flat pavers that will suffocate any growth and allow a lawn mower to go over them.
