How do I get rid of moths from wool rugs?

Hi Sandra, you might have carpet beetles. Carpet beetles aren't a moth....they are hairy teeny tiny worms before they turn into tiny speckled beetles. But they will put holes in your clothing and get into your closet. They love natural fibers like linen and wool. They can even survive off of dust bunnies in the corners. They are a real pain but luckily don't bite like bed bugs. They are extremely hard to get rid of. Clean clean and clean. Vaccuum!!!!!! Move furniture around and clean behind your furniture. Don't store stuff under the beds because they will hide out and collect with the dust. You may find a source. I have tried everything to get rid of them but because we have so many of them on the windows outside the house, they get in because they are so tiny. you may want to get an exterminator. They have powders that they will put under your nice wool rugs that will suffocate them.

I don't know if this is what you have for sure because there are other moths that could be the problem. But it is very suspect that you found them in your wool rugs. Good luck!

If you have moths, the worms you are seeing are the larva and they eat the carpet. The first step is to vacuum both sides of the carpet and then put it out in the sun. Hi! I would hire an exterminator or remove all the carpet. In theory, diatomaceous earth might work to kill them, the same way it kills other bugs, but, I have never used it for that.

Moths and other bugs hate Cedar. They make cedarwood essential oil and I would start with washing your rugs then put the cedarwood essential oil in a spray bottle and spray your wool rugs down. Maybe repeat every 2 weeks, it's a trial and error with how often to use but essential oil is natural and non harmful to humans, pets or the environment. It is not a pesticide so it cant cause cancers or respiratory problems along with all the other horrible things that go with chemical sprays. Cedar works the best against moths and insects and has worked for centuries, as my great grandmother, my grandmother and my mother always taught me, which I use today. Hope that helps!
