Bug problem on Tiki umbrella

The Cypess tree holds up the Tiki Umbrella and has been here 11 years. Problem is some wasp like bug is drilling many holes in the tree. Is there anything we can do to stop the problem?

    Looks like Carpenter Bees. We had them same problem on our upper level deck. "Drilling "holes everywhere! We had to call our exterminator to put dust in the holes. I have a neighbor that uses a bee trap that seems to work if you dont want to use an exterminator, looks similar to a bird house only the hole is the size of what the bee would "drill" and on the bottom is a mason jar attached to catch the bees.They check in but dont check out.

    Funny I didn't think of calling the exterminator I use. Do you have to call them often or did one trip do the job. I wonder if the holes should be covered with something after the treatment.

      @Sherrie Slaboda Yes one treatment worked for us. They were still flying around the deck but not much you can do about them flying around. That didn't seem to last too long. Havent seen any in a few weeks. Then fill in the holes, we used wood filler....

    Spray the wholes with WD40

    I also used WD-40 and then filled each hole with a cigerette but and wood putty . After this I took one pack of the cigarettes (NO FILTER) soaked them in half gallon of water and sprayed the entire tree ,and umbrella . This has done the trick for me . Tobacco is an old remedy for many things .

    That WD40 works for a lot of things and then adding wood filler should do it. I gave up cigarettes 12 years ago. I'd be afraid to buy a pack because I might just want to smoke them.

    Calling an exterminator would probably be the best bet. They would be able to tell you what kind of bug is drilling those holes. I hope you can get them to stop messing with you cypress tree. It looks really nice.  http://360wildlife.com/;
