How to stop neighbours dog using my garden as a toilet

I live in an open plan area and a new neighbours dog has decided my little fairy garden and front yard are his toilet for pooping. Its huge and i have to bag it up everyday. Neighbours just shrug. Dont want to start a war. Is there a gentle way to discourage dog toilet.

Ask if they would be a good neighbour, and help to keep their dog on a lead when out of the house, as it seems to think your garden is his and is making your much cared for fairy garden a toilet! (it is their duty to keep the dog in control ) and you would rather not fall out..........

Don't hurt that little dog. That happened to one of our neighbours. They had a little tiny dog, and someone gave that little dog a bait-with ground up glass in a piece of meat. And that dear little animal died IN AGONY with glass shards in their tummy. Ripped their anal passage apart. I think if you asked your local vet. surgeon, they would have a good answer for you. I have a feeling that citrus peelings, can be a deterrent. Not sure. U can also check on Google.

I feel you pain on this, we have a wonderful neighbor who owns the house and property, she chose to take in a homeless mother and daughter (age 22) who own an Australian Shepard. The dog is in an indoor kennel all day and is allowed out on a leash to relieve herself, this happens right next to our driveway, big piles. I have talked to the homeowner and she gets after them to clean it up, but this is temporary at best. I have even given them a roll of doggie mess bags. Then I revisited the neighbor and the same results.

From here I called Code Enforcement anonymously and asked them to clarify what the law states, it read "in a timely manner", well what does that mean, it means immediately, no more than 2 piles. The bottom line is the home owner will be fined and not the pet owner. I did tell the neighbor what i did by contacting Code Enforcement, the situation has improved slightly, but relapses.

This is a serious health hazard! As you encountered, a shrug.

It is the pet owner that is the problem, not the pet. If they are rude enough to allow this to happen it creates a slippery slope and can compromise the best of neighborly relationships. Right now if i have to shovel this up, i put it where they walk, then they can deal with it.

Create a cute fenced area around the fairy garden

Dogs by nature mark their boundaries. Sometimes they compete with other dogs to be the dominant dog in a neighborhood. We had this problem and I will tell you what we found out. Putting out mothballs (closer than 1 in every square foot) will help deter dogs from sniffing and urinating in a garden. This will help break their habit of including your little fairy garden. Also, some people selfishly consider others yards for their dogs to take a dump so they don't have to clean up after their own dogs. We had this problem and finally just put up an inexpensive but very nice fence to keep the dogs out of our yard. You might have to fence off your back yard like we did. I hope this helps.
