I get some strange looking plants growing

in containers i have planted from scratch. I dont know if they are pretty plants or territorial weeds. I think they came from store bought potting soil. Two have actually grown into 8 ft small trees with yellow flowers. Other different ones look like they might be fast growing flowers or weeds. Potting soil from home depot. I even opened one bag and a baby frog was staring up at me! Lol. How pure is potting soil anyway?

I usually put a little preen weed preventer in my pots when I am ready to plant just for that reason. It will not stop a tree seed from germinating since it isn't a weed. I get all kinds of things growing in my pots otherwise. I have had leftover potting soil from the year before and literally had to pick out the weeds that were growing as I took it out of the bag. I have had many different brands do this.

I'm not sure what you mean by pure but organically speaking, I'm not surprised at what might live, flourish, and grow in that nutrient rich environment.

Even the most pristine of potting soil can become host for air borne seeds, bird droppings, etc. Lol- i have a patio peach tree on my deck that has volunteered poison ivy!!! if you want to identify an unrecognized plant, join the Plant Identification Facebook group- its a great resource!
