Is there a non-toxic way to get rid of mosquitoes in my backyard?

I have a small backyard, but can't enjoy it due to pesky mosquitoes. There are not a lot of them, but I am allergic to their bite. They don't seem to bother my husband. I've tried citronella candels and torches, a mosquito zapper hangs from a tree, and mosquito-type netting to screen in my porch. What else can I do?

Ferns! I pick some and hang in the tent when camping. Works like a charm! Also, be sure you have no standing water, like fountains, pet water bowls, bird baths, etc. Good luck.

We love our mosquito magnet, propane makes it work. I believe we got ours at Lowes. Though it is expensive and rather unsightly, not to mention refilling propane it is completely worth it and it is savior. We live in a state with a high ratio of mosquitos and by s river. This really really makes a difference! Keep in mind it takes a few weeks to get many of the mosquitos, but after a month, we hardly see any. This unit is used by so many in our area, that when we visit neighbors without one, it makes me want to go home to our yard with hardly any. Otherwise, I can only suggest a big strong fan when you sit outside to keep them off of you. I didn't have much luck with herbs (I would need a huge volume)

get rid of the mosquito breeding ground. the 'skeeters hatch their young in still or stagnate water. dump it out. if water puddles in a certain place for a day or 2 use mosquito bits...its a biologic control and very effective. you can also used it to control gnats as well.

Save a bottle or jar from your pantry, add sugar and warm water to it to dissolve the sugar, add a dewdrops of grease removing dish or laundry soap. Then poke holes in lid large enough for them to get through and secure lid onto bottle/jar. They'll come in for the sugar, and die from the soap.
