We have a well and quit using round-up and sprays like it years ago. We dilute bleach with water and by the end of the day you weeds turn brown and die! We use bleach, non fragrance, to shock our well and so if it is absorbed into the well it will not harm anything. We have a gravel/rock driveway where weeds love to grow!

tried n true recipe...effective so don't let it get on plants u want to live...in spray bottle...1/2 vinegar 1/2 water 3 tbs salt......u can even sprinkle straight salt in grooves with weeds just don't get close enough for rain runoff to get in lawn or garden,,,

I understand what you are looking for because I was searching for the same thing and I wanted something effective, safe for my property, children and pets. Bingo! It's something I've been using for about 5 years now and couldn't be more pleased. It's waaaay more effective than Roundup and even gets rid of poison ivy and poison oak, which are big pests in our area.

First, let me give you the science behind the ingredients. There are only 3: white vinegar (5% acidity), iodized table salt and liquid dish washing detergent (like Dawn).

The vinegar is what kills the foliage of whatever it is sprayed upon. The salt is present to seep into the base of the plant, into the ground, and aids in creating an environment unfit for growing. The liquid dish washing detergent's job is to keep the weed-killing solution from sliding off the plants that it's applied to. So...

Thoroughly mix together 1 gallon white vinegar (5% acidity), 1 cup iodized table salt and 1/4 cup liquid dish washing detergent. Liberally spray on the plants you wish to get rid of, making sure you spray the base of the plants near or on the roots. Try to do this on a day when rain isn't expected for best results. Just DO NOT spray it on anything you want to keep.

I have used the salt and vinegar and it works. But now I use just straight salt. I but it at the dollar store and just pour it on a weed or grass in my driveway or side walkway. I have been doing this for a while and it kills the weed very quickly. I do not pour it on a weed that is near a plant. I don't wan to kill my flowers and plants and the salt will kill them. Good luck. Salt is super easy to use also

I was using the vinegar, salt and dawn. It kills them, but they come back. I just found out that putting baking soda where you do not want something to grow will neutralize the PH in the soil and nothing will ever grow there again. I have just finished doing my driveway and my brick walks. I tried a section of the brick walk about a month ago and nothing has grown back so I decided to do more. Will let you know how it goes

The vinegar (pickling vinegar for the higher acid content) ,salt and dishwashing soap definitely works. I mix it up in a empty liquid laundry bottle and no need to rinse out the bottle before reusing. Trying the baking soda idea but not sure if I didn't use enough since it hasn't worked yet. I will keep my trusty vinegar mixture close by.

@Ron Wohlfarth Look for agricultural vinegar. 20%. It will work. It's some strong stuff and you can buy it by the gallon for not too much. Alone, it works and you can plant into the ground around it later as it's natural and diminishes over time.

Vinegar & salt, plus a small qsquirt of Dawn dishwashing liquid works every time. In a gallon of white vinegar, add 1 cup salt, then Dawn. Mix well and spray onto the area.
