Lynne Webb on Jul 25, 2016Yes, or plain old Crisco. I did that for my sunflower feeders. The downside is that eventually the poles or whatever you use to support the feeders get pretty grungy. And it's a mess to clean. My only remedy was dedication to the task. Using a plastic feeder and maybe 1/4 cup of sugar water at a time. Then hang it from the slightest twig possible. I've used the collar like guards and the fuzzy tailed rats learn to go around them. A BB gun works wonders whether you hit them or not. Just the snap scares the bejeebers out of them. That's only if you don't have nearby neighbors. And if you have a dog teach it "Squirrel"!!!! They are frightened to death of a barking dog. I hate squirrels. If you live in a cedar house there's something about the cedar they love. It's a soft wood and retains it's aroma. They will literally eat your house doing their dental work. And I do understand it's necessary to halt the growth of their teeth. But they aren't worth the price of a $300,000 house. Some of the damage they do isn't even fixable.Helpful Reply

Lyn2398900 on Jul 25, 2016Bet you don't have this answer: Trap them and take them on a long road trip! Did this and one came back. We had sprayed his tail a color..So make it a long trip. Mine was about a mile. Longer, better.Helpful Reply

Lynne Webb on Jul 26, 2016How funny! You sprayed it's tail so you would know if it found its way "home". Your reply was my first chuckle of the day. Thanks.Helpful Reply
