This is not an easy job. In my case it was potatoes that suffered and my solution is to move the potato patch, which is not an option in a trailer space. There is nothing that you can sprinkle on the ground that will take care of it: http://learn.eartheasy.com/2014/07/how-to-block-tree-roots-from-entering-your-garden/
Hi Bev, the first thing that came to my mind would be putting in a buried barrier of some kind around your garden where the roots are coming in. They make landscape edging that is plastic and I think they make it as tall as 2 feet
You could try drilling holes in the roots and putting oil in the holes. It will take a bit of time, but it will eventually kill the tree too. No tree, no problem.
Find out if your trailer park is responsible for the roots that are ruining your tomato patch. Check your lease also. They might be responsible for having them taken away, or cut with a saw.
First, speak with the manager of the trailer park. If you damage the tree trying to control it you may have an issue with your landlord. Ask if they can have someone to come in to address the problem.
The only fact that I know of is to use Drano once a month, down the drain, and then use baking soda. This will help you also. Use them both, not just one. J.
Trailer park....hence you should not be doing anything
Really, the more folks who do this, the better the chance of arresting the problem. Place a note up on the wall to the laundry mat, to the park, or some public area, that you all meet at. The more the better chance you have to arrest this problem. J.
