Hi, Sonya: I know we all want to use zero chemicals in our homes and yards, but wasps are where I stop! I use the Raid brand of wasp spray that really shoots a long way and hits the nest while you are still at a safe distance! I'm sure there are some mixes some hometalker has tried and I will be watching.

I recently removed a small wasp nest at my mom's home by knocking it into a large mouth jar and slapping the lid on. But that depends on where they have built the nest and how easy that would be to do.

I recently asked a question similar only I didn't care if it was home or store bought. My issue was yellow jackets and I had used spray, boiling water, and gasoline all without getting rid of them. BTW, yellow jackets are a specific type of wasp. Then my daughter came for a visit. We went to Lowe's and she bought SpectracidePro spray. She had hired an exterminator to get rid of her problem and that's what he used.

I have never heard of a home remedy for wasps. The commercial sprays are not expensive and unfortunately they have chemicals in them but that is what works. If they are the ground wasps, called yellow jackets you can wait until dark until they are all in the nest and pour boiling water in the hole.

  • How big is your nest? I had a small one that was just starting. I saged them at dusk and then used a power washer to blast them. They were too dazed and confused to do any harm and that was that. Those that survived just flew away. I was told to attack at first light or dusk when they are less active.

Thank you ladies. We live in the country, so we have lots of nests. I have spent a small fortune on sprays. I'm about to try one that has peppermint and clove oil. I will update on how effective this mixture is.

Yes, I would like to know if it works. I'm still battling with the wasps that live underground. Tried mint soaked in water and poured on, no good. Raid wasp killer also didn't work. Plugged up the hole and they came out next to it.

I’m not sure. I use a spray bottle with water and several drops of dawn dish soap. Maybe 2 t. I don’t think you can over due the dawn when spraying wasps. I use a bottle of this in my kitchen all the time to spray on my stove and countertops to clean up and wipe down with paper towels to make it shine. If its too soapy on your counters, just dilute it down more with water.

I mixed Dawn dish doap, clove oil, cinnamon oil, some Dr Techners concentrated mouthwash (for the peppermint oil it has in it because I didn't have she she any) and water into a spray bottle. I didn't measure at all. It worked like a charm.
