Is Creeping Charlie in your lawn a good thing or a bad thing?
Is there a sure-fire way to get rid of Creeping Charley?
Hi Dee, If you want to kill weeds, pour boiling water on them and then sprinkle salt on them. Take care when using this method as it will kill any plant it comes into contact with.
White Vinegar
I use vinegar, boiling water or Epsom salt and boiling water.
Both are good remedies, but the vinegar will sterilize the soil and everything it touches above and below the ground, so be careful with it. Do not use salt in your garden. A tsp to tbsp. will increase the salinity of five gallons of water forever. It never goes away, ever, and continues to travel through the soil to our rivers and lakes and forever increases the salinity of fresh water. There are already some cities that actually have high salinity in their drinking water because of all the salt that is used on the roads in the winter. If you want to control weeds in the garden, use Preen Weed Preventer, it stops weed seeds from germinating, but not seeds you plant. It does not work on root born weeds like creeping charley, so those still need to be hand pulled, but the weeding time you spend will be negligible. I went from an hour a day to maybe an hour a week when I started using it.
