Not sure what you are asking? Are you talking just a specific root or what?
Hire a professional. 15 years ago we hired a master gardener and he "shaved" the tops of the tree roots to the point where they were no longer protruding. Trees belonged to the neighbors, but the roots ruined our aboveground swimming pool and were threatening the foundation of our garage. Best $800 we ever spent, and the trees survived.
I would try to work around the root system building up soil and putting a border around.
