Smother them with newspaper, cardboard or landscape fabric. Then cover with mulch. Dig them out. If you use weed killer it will contaminate your plants. I dig out by hand. I weed a little bit every day so it isn't a chore.
Remove the GREEN, the plant will (eventually) die. It's an ongoing process -- every day when you 'check' your garden take shears or scissors with you and cut off at ground level. Don't need to pull. 15 minutes a day is better than an hour and 45 minutes a week.
