Agricultural vinegar (available at your local garden center) is perfectly safe and earth-friendly.

White vinegar. And you DO NOT need Dawn or any other brand of dish soap in there. Just plain white vinegar is the acidic ingredient and it works faster than Roundup weed killer. I buy it by the gallon, leaving that soft lid on and I punch holes in it with a corn on the cob holder (easier than using a nail ). Then hold upside down and squeeze ever so gently. It kills weeds in cracks, it kills grass away from your fire pit edges for safety and anywhere you are tired of weedeating..... just spray a little vinegar and done.
Linda, BOILING WATER works beautifully as long as you don't have plants alongside the weeds you want to kill (but then of course a spray on weed killer could drift over and kill the plants you wnat to keep, too). Nothing can live, Linda, if you pour boiling water over it. If you pour enough over it to saturate the ground (you will see the steam come up from the soil) you will kill the rooting system for that exact spot and for a few feet surrounding it too. You can also cover the weedy area with newspaper (about 5 or 6 pages deep) and water it down, then cover it with slightly larger heavy cardboard weighted along the edges with rocks or wood or brick and wet it down too. The idea is to deprive the weeds of any light, so they cannot continue to thrive. Leave this paper-and-cardboard light blocker on top of the weeds at least a year (cover it with mulch if you don't want to see the cardboard). Hope this helps :) Thanks for using Hometalk for a solution.
Thanks Kristine, will try that. I have one with 1 c. ea. Listerine, Amonia, Epson salt, and lemon ajax. Haven't tried it yet, but that's a lot of ingredients compared to yours. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, sorry, I think this solution is for bugs, not weeds. Sorry.
Agricultural white vinegar from your local garden store.
White vinegar straight out the bottle. You can mix a couple tablespoons of desolved epsom salt to it and use a sprayer to apply.Don't get this on any plants you want to live.Good luck.
Vinegar will kill anything it touches, if tou plan to use it around planys you want, you'll have to protect them. Newspaper is a good shield.
