I would cut the grass down, dig it up, lay a strip of landscape fabric, then fill the strip with river rock or pebble stone.

You can cut the grass, then put some old newspaper or cardboard on the grass - it will "kill" the grass as a weed and then put some stones, the same or similar to the stones you have.

Use a sharp edged shovel to cut the grass along the edge and pull it out. Then put an edging product down so the grass can not migrate back over. Search for edging for beds. The big box stores have quite a few choices. Also, you could use round up to kill the grass so it is easier to get up. Just use a piece of cardboard so neighbor's grass does not get any overspray. After you get rid of grass, put an edging product in, then put some more stones where the grass was.

Spray it with Roundup. It will be dead abe gone in 7 days. Now you might have to spray ever once and awhile because it is grass and it keeps on growing.

After you have you have gotten rid of the grass you can put down rock, pine straw or mulch.

    Good luck

Seems rather unfair that you have to engage in cost and labour...all of the above suggestions are workable, to my mind, except that of the RoundUP..which kills everything..unless you can "paint" it on...the spray can drift and actually end up and kill something in your garden you care about..not to mention your own lungs..no..bad..but painting it will work well ..as well as just plain ordinary table salt..spray the grass with water in the middle of a real hot sunny day..and sprinkle the salt over the grass...the grass will be wilted by morning..and dried out by evening..do after each rain fall if you get rain..or every couple of days..then do the newspaper or cardboard step...I would then introduce coloured mulch ...which would make a nice back drop to pots of flowers or garden decor ... if you are inclined..

Quickest and easiest is the Roundup, just use it on a day the wind is calm and use cardboard or something to prevent carryover to your neighbors yard. As long as you don't spray with your head down and wash up after you are done spraying it is safe to use. If you have dogs, just don't let them in that area until it is dry.

I would dig it out myself and use the grass strip somewhere else where I needed some grass. Then, like Lynda said, you want to put metal edging up against your neighbor's side so that the grass does not continue to migrate. We even asked our neighbor if we could put it on their side too if we paid for the materials and did the labor. Personally, I see no reason to use Round Up. Horrible stuff.

get one of the lawn/garden torches and burn the grass on your side. You wont have to trim again

Vinegar and salt mixed will kill grass and weeds with no chemicals.

Take table salt and sprinkle it heavily on the grass (I found my canisters for about 1/2 off at a discount grocery store called Save A Lot) and then lightly water or wait until it rains. Within 3 days of the water being added the grass will die. You may have to sprinkle several times to get everything. This will last about 2-4 months. I did this to my gravel driveway and the weeds/grass are just now coming back almost 9 months later. DO NOT do this to any area where you want to grow stuff!

Boiling water will kill the grass and roots. Just pour the boiling water over it. For this to work, the water temp needs to be at a rolling boil then immediately poured over the offending vegetation. Your landscape edging will need to extend at least 5 inches into the ground to prevent grass roots from traveling under it.

Why is your yard higher than the neighbors? (or is it?) Is that a wood strip beside your rocks? Why do you have large/small rocks there? It looks like you have a wood strip, then rocks to prevent your yard from sliding down into the neighbors lower yard... is that correct? Post another picture showing more of your yard, or explain to us why you have the wood + rocks there. What ever you decide to do, do not harm the neighbors yard, and keep in mind that any product you use on the grass, including the use of boiling water, if it gets on their fence, you could be held responsible for replacing any damaged fence you might accidentally do.

che what your neighbors have on their side before you spray stuff that can sift over the line and cause an other problem that can be costly for you!! Digging up or cover with black plastic and let the sun do the work. If you dig up you can transplant the chunks of grass elsewhere in your yard. Or put in your compost pile. Let us know your solution.

Just a thought on a very touchy subject for me: It is your neighbors' responsibility to keep any and all of their grass and/or weeds from growing into your yard. Your property is not theirs to invade.
