Check with a local nursery. I wouldn't think so because the one near our house just changed their sign to "it's time to apply pre-emergent".

It won't do any good if it can't go down into the soil, You have to wait until the soil is thawing enough for the preemergent to actually sleep into the soil before the weeds start popping up out of the soil. If the top soil is frozen it will just wash away with snow or rain on the soil.

  • For sure check with your local nursery or garden store as they'll know exactly the right time. Up here in Chicago, it's when the forsythia bloom, early April, so you might be a bit sooner than that.

Call Scott’s or check their website. If you load your address, the time of when to apply each lawn item is given.
