This pond started out several years ago with a plastic tub and a couple of spillovers. They were a constant problem because they would leak and the fish could never make it down to the bottom pond with out jumping out . I think this will be the final plan. Unless I come up with another crazy Idea.
There used to be a little foot bridge across the pond. I built up the wall to make it level with the top end of the pond about 3 rows of brick.
I built up the inside wall to match. The original pond stopped where the stone wall was and there was a spill over to a smaller sunken plastic pond tub. The water was pumped from the lower end up to the top end. In this picture is my battery driven tiller . I love this thing.
I started tilling the inside of the pond to make it level inside. I had to move quite a bit of dirt. I still needed to go deeper so I started shoveling dirt to the outside creating another flower bed which be planted later.
This is a 16x20 pond liner tarp from Amazon.I started filling it with water and made adjustments as it filled up.
I sta.rted laying the topper bricks and then trimmed the extra liner back
This is a top view almost finished. The pump is down and the end near the deck and it pumps to the red vase on this end. I put my water Lillie back in from the other pond
This is pretty much done .
I raised the inside area about 6 inches so If we got a heavy rain it wouldn't flood
Suggested materials:
  • Pond liner   (Amazon)
  • Pea gravel   (Lowes)
  • Block   (had on hand)

How do you keep birds from eating your fish? A neighbor had one and had to put mesh over their pond to keep the fish from being dinner.

What support do the walls have to withstand the pressure and weight of the water without eventually collapsing ? And did you use a barrier protection between the liner and wall and bottom from sharp edges or rocks ?
