Our front porch was, to say the least, unwelcoming. It was basically a slab leading to the front doors.

We had put the etched letters on the doors but little else since moving in.

The doors were blue and the door hardware was covered in peeling old lacquer.

I sanded off the old coating. I did it by hand but you could use a Dremel or sander.

I sprayed the handle with hammered silver paint from Rustoleum.

It worked and perfectly matched the lock on the door!

The stucco surrounding the porch was a neutral, ugly, boring non-color. We cleaned it with a pressure washer and painted it a dark grey.

My husband painting the stucco. Warning: stucco is very hard to paint. If you can't spray paint it, be sure to get rollers made especially for it. There are so many little twists and turns you will have to go back over it with a brush, too. Be patient.

We knew we wanted to install a banister. You can buy premade sections but we bought the pieces and put it together ourselves. Note for next time: paint all the pieces first!

My husband learned a lot about drilling holes and putting screws in concrete during this job. He installed the post and banister using a level and hurricane clamps. We also did a banister on the other side of the column.

We had to paint everything. We used my favorite product. It is called Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer. It has a beautiful finish and sticks to any surface!!

I painted the oval window frame white. And doors black.

We added a white strip on the left also to define the porch.

We bought 2 old chairs at our church tag sale. My husband sanded them and I stained them Red Mahogany from MinWax.

The little stool was built by my husband and I found the lamp at another yard sale. It didn't have any wiring so I just added a little clip in light kit from Lowe's.

I love the contrast between the grey, white and reddish stain.

Now our porch says "Welcome to our home, come sit a while".

You did such a great job on the porch, but my question is, do you also plan to put in some landscaping, bushes, etc., to soften the entrance? That might be just the final, great touch...

Can I borrow your handy husband?

Love it!! If you have the brick all around, can I still trim in black and everything else white around it?
