Front Yard Landscaping: Low Maintenance Ideas

Update your front yard landscaping & curb appeal with these budget friendly & low maintenance ideas

This project is sponsored by Linkind

Do you feel that y’all?

The heat is coming…

I don’t know about you, but this Alabama heat makes it hard to want to be outside “working”.

That is why it is super important for us to have beautiful front yard landscaping that is also very low maintenance.

Sunny days are for enjoying not working 😉

So today I teamed up with Linkind to share some of my favorite front yard landscaping ideas that will add to your curb appeal but not your workload!

Front Yard Landscaping: Low Maintenance Ideas

When I start thinking about landscaping design ideas I always add the front porch in with it too.

The goal is to add some major curb appeal for a minimal amount of work.

1. Adding Front Door Greenery

An easy way to spruce up your front door is to add some greenery.

It becomes even easier if it’s fake 😉

I like to add faux stems & plants to round vases to put around the front door.

Pick stems that are in season & that will add some color to your front porch.

Fill a planter with cardboard, foam, paper etc to make the pot nice & full.

Next, I add real dirt on-top to make the flowers look more realistic!

Now you have all the beautiful greenery without the watering & maintenance.

2. Wrapping Columns

We have been wanting to wrap these columns ever since we moved in y’all!

Columns really elevate a home’s curb appeal, especially when they are wrapped.

Plus the process is super easy & budget friendly!

We started by buying (4) 1x8x8 boards per column & cutting them down to the height of the columns.

Pro Tip: Measure each side separately, measurements may not all be the same!

Next, we added a top & bottom cap made out of 1×4 boards.

The boards are all attached with finishing nails.

After everything is attached, fill the holes with wood filler & sand.

To finish the beams off we stained them with Classic Black gel stain by Minwax.

Once the stain was dry we sealed them with polyurethane to protect them from the elements.

So much better right!

It’s amazing what a few pieces of wood can do for curb appeal.

3. Enclosing Step Backs

This is another super simple update that can completely transform your front porch.

These wooden steps are super solid & sturdy, but they are lacking one thing to make them look really complete, a backer.

This process is so simple, we bought 1×6 boards the length of the steps & cut them down to size.

Next, we pressed them into the back of the steps with the help of a dead blow.

We used exterior wood screws to attach them & filled the holes with wood filler.

To finish them off we sanded them down & stained them the same color we stained the deck!

It’s crazy that 4 pieces of wood can completely elevate the way stairs look.

4. Cleaning Up Landscape

Our landscape was in serious need of some TLC.

The bushes are overgrown, weeds everywhere, & the floor is just dirt…

I started by using a hedge trimmer to clean up all the overgrown bushes.

Pro Tip: Save some of the longer cut branches to create a fun & free arrangement.

After everything was cleaned up, I used a weed killer to manage our unwanted guests.

Once the weeds had died out, I pulled them, making sure to get the root also.

After we were free & clear of the weed intruders, we laid down mulch.

Mulch can lose its color with time but a quick touch up with mulch color spray can make it look brand new for cheap.

5. Add Landscape Lights

Adding landscape lighting is the cherry on top to a beautiful front yard & porch.

We installed these LinKind StarRay Solar Spotlights all around our landscaping.

It was easy to space them out around the front landscaping, we simply lined them up with our columns.

They have four color options to accent your home’s curb appeal & are 50% brighter than the other ordinary ones.

We installed them directly into the mulch & pointed them towards the porch & landscape.

You can also install them using the wall bracket & use them as wall lighting.

The best part is that these solar lights are maintenance free after they are installed, they charge themselves & last 6-12 hours!

Plus they are waterproof so no need to worry about keeping them covered during bad weather.

They are the perfect finishing touch for our front yard landscape project!

It feels so good to have this makeover complete & ready to enjoy.

Let me know what y’all think of our easy, low maintenance curb appeal ideas.

We had two posts holding up the roof over the home entry. My son covered in the man-made deck flooring. The fit in with the house beautifully. Also, the piece from the step up is called a "riser." Yes, I didn't know either, guess that is why we have kids who grow up to do hardwood floors and cover posts; should have let then build our house instead of the awful contractor we had.
