It's that time of year again when I get to visit my hometown dump. If you've seen some of my previous posts I have rescued a few items. While on a recent visit I spotted this watering can just begging me to take it home.

So here is my dump find. Can you believe someone threw this out? Other than needing to be washed it was in perfect condition. Using soap and water I washed the can, rinsed and let dry.

Next step was to give it a coat of paint. I chose this Hidden Sea Glass spray paint by Behr. Love the color!

I gave the can two coats of paint. Be sure to allow time to dry in between coats.

Once dry I wanted to add some detail to the can. I had these self adhesive stencils I used on a previous project that I knew would work perfect for this one.

I chose to use a white acrylic paint.

Next step is to determine placement of stencil. As I mentioned these are self adhesive so there is no need to hold them in place.

Once placement is determined, using a small artist brush apply the paint on the stencil.

Remove stencil and continue with pattern around the can.

Here is my can complete.

My stencil kit had a stencil in the same pattern I used for the trim, this one I chose for the center. Apply paint and remove.

Here is my can complete with the new paint job. I am loving this can! You can leave it as is and use as a decoration but I am going to put a plant in it.

This is a plastic cover for plants to protect them from frost. You can purchase them at Dollarama. I will be using this to plant my flower in inside my can.

Taking the protective cover I turned it upside down and using my hand squeezed the top part together to get it to fit inside the watering can opening.

It fits perfect inside my can, and is open at the bottom to allow for drainage.

Here is my plant I will be putting inside of it. It is lavender. You can use whatever flowers you like. I was drawn to the Lavender at my garden center.

So here is my watering can with the plant inside.

I love how this turned out, and I'm glad I could save the watering can from an untimely demise. It's a perfect addition to my front step.
