Cleaning up the veranda a bit is a nice way to transition to fall. It is after Labor Day but Autumn doesn't officially start for two more weeks. The veranda needs its summer decor stored and a more fall-like items brought out.
In the transitional time, I take down the summer wreath and store the summer pillows with the brighter summer colors on the bench. Then, I put up a wreath that looks more like harvest time. I use pine cones and fruit with cinnamon sticks. It looks a bit like fall but without the fall leaves that come later.
Next, I change the pillows on my bench. The pretty summer colors are replaced with a muted palette anticipating cooler days. See how I made this wreath on my blog post Harvest Wreaths.
Pots with dragging scraggly foliage and spent flowers are cleaned up and put away.
The ones remaining that have nice growth are regrouped into new arrangements. Sometimes just turning a pot around will reveal a cascade of flowers to freshen up a corner.
Pots with spent plants are cleaned out, and new fresh plants with flowers in autumn colors are put in.
This big pot looks a bit bedraggled.
But just turning it around reveals a nice floral show.
All freshened up, just sweep the floor of dropped blooms and enjoy the cooler days to come.
The bench is waiting!

Absolutely beautiful! Very similar to what my girlfriends do just up the road from you in Asheville. Every house should have such a lovely veranda with all the pretty plants. LOVE the harvest wreath, just stunning. I could sit out there for hours. Thanks for sharing and enjoy! 🍊🍁

Me too, and we frequently enjoy a hot cup of coffee on cool mornings, or an evening meal with the stunning views from our mountainside across the valley. More about my garden and our mountain home on my blog frommycarolinahome.com
