How do I modify a 5th wheel camper?
I have seen some great home ideas that would actually work for 5th wheel campers as well. I'll be selling my home and buying about a 34 to 38 foot, used 5th wheel to park for some time. My build concerns are for a daybed using a twin xl mattress for when my youngest is home from college. At 6'3" the bunks are not big enough. I'd like to build the frame to include long deep drawers for more storage, but I have to build it as light as possible while still being sturdy. I am by no means a skilled woodworking person, but I do have plenty of power tools and not bad at using them. Any suggestions? Thanks,Tina

My son has a 43 foot fifth wheel trailer. It actually has two pull outs in the living room. If you find one like that, you may not have to build anything. The bedroom in the back has a king sized bed that you can lift for storage underneath. Check into the kind of trailer you are going to get and see what is offered for extra beds. Perhaps you could if necessary replace a couch with something longer, but the weight will be a definite factor. You would need to find out the weight of the piece you are replacing and try to keep it the same. You may well be able to build a sturdy daubed with how much the furniture in a trailer actually weighs.
There are many magazines and books devoted to this very subject. Check your local library, bookstore, newsstand, and home improvement center and pick up a few that look promising. There are also hundreds of websites and blogs out there too, just takes a bit of patience to sift through all of them. Here are a few sites to get you started.

Both my brother and sister-in-law are 6'4" and have had to rebuild any RV they ever purchased. They ended up having a custom build directly from the factory. They flew out to Ohio or Indiana where the manufacturing facility was located.
My husband built a bed frame out of plywood for an x-long twin mattress that has 3 drawers that roll out underneath. You can see the tutorial and the platform bed plans here: https://www.simplicityinthesouth.com/2016/12/progress-with-the-dormer-bedroom-built-in-bed-using-stock-kitchen-cabinets.html
