How can I upcycle this garden tub to be useful as something else?
This is a large (garden tub). We love it and want to keep it, but it is not useful here in AZ, where we conserve water as much as possible. I thought of a window seat? I am not confident in my thinking on this and see how creative you all are. How can this space be useful, yet not having to tear out the tub? Thank you for any recommendations!

Hi Pat, sorry you need to give up your garden tub. How about removing it and putting in a standard tub or stand up shower. Good luck with your project.
Might have to take off the faucet and handles before covering the top with plywood or something like that. Paint it and use it for a padded window seat....or build a dresser type storage for it (after covering it). Is there a window over the tub? How about a place for plants? You could combine that with a window seat with a raised part for a plant. Depends on how big it is but am sure whatever you do will look good.
Thank you Peggy, Pat, and Kathy for your responses!
We have the same issue, but our fixtures come out of the wall! Neither of us take baths but we must keep the tub for resale (whenever that comes along). You'll need to remove the fixtures and cover the tub surface with some kind of drop cloth in order to protect it. Then, make a frame with 2X4s that will allow the plywood cover to rest just above the back splash. I would also add a joist or two across the middle of the tub if you intend to have anything really heavy on top of it. Now, you have a flat surface to cover. What to use depends on what you want to do with this space. You could paint, tile, adhesive tile, plank Pergo or any other surface. Finish off the raised edge with some molding. Now you can set shelves, plants, cushions - whatever. Enjoy!
You can use it for storage. Get a piano hinge at Home Depot attach it to 2 boards so that one can be lifter up,. Get a foam mattress cover at Walmart. $10, cover with batting, then get a some nice fabric and staple it to the boards. Instant seat.
Thank you, Dee!
I would not do anything to cover all up ..I would install floating shelves and have cascading plants
