Front porch blues

I am looking for some inspiration for our blah front patio. It’s hard to tell in the photo, but our front door is cobalt blue. We rarely use our front door or the patio, but I’ve been looking for a few simple ways to brighten it up without making it too cluttered. I plan to spray paint the chairs or maybe build a small bench to replace them.

Needs color. Paint the pots your plants are in a bright color. Throw rug should be brighter too. Cushions for the chairs. Perhaps a new carpet lighter and maybe some pattern also.

If you don't use it as it is, why not enclose it and use it as Sun- room or Put up Blinds or curtains and use as storage or as another room?

It is our front door, we usually come in through the garage. Anyone who comes to visit would still use this door.

I think the small window would be lovely with a window box. An outdoor rug that has both the color of the siding and the front door brings everything together. Your frog (which is so cute) and flower pot just needs one more tall pot with grasses. Good luck.

Good silks would be a great idea- and you can change them out with the seasons.

I love cobalt blue, but it is not the lightest, brightest color. Can you paint your front door a cheery welcoming yellow or red? I'd keep the chairs, (maybe paint them white to match your house trim) as they are more conducive to a conversation than a bench if you ever sit out front in the future. I'd get a rug that incorporates the color of your door along with other light, bright colors along with chair pads that use the same colors. Keep the colors to a maximum of 3. Oh, and add a small table between the chairs - you can move one chair in front of the window. Every chair or two needs to be anchored by a table.

I would scrap the chairs, and add hanging plants along with your current flower box. And then add a brighter porch rug, or faux paint one on the floor to go with your door. Maybe plant some shrubs around the edge of that concrete.

    Hello Amanda,

I think you could make it a little sanctuary, add some more planters with colorful flowers. A nice little table with two chairs, this way you can sit outside and drink a cup of coffee.

thank you Amanda. consider Restore or Thrift stores for a few comfortable rocking chairs. a fabric or cloth curtain could be hung between 2 horizontal rods. perhaps half inch electrical conduit with a centre hook on the top rod for support.
