Peel back the loose paint as best as you can. Then wet sand the chip area with 400 grit wet dry sand paper. Go to a automotive paint supply store and purchase the sand paper as well as spot putty. It comes in various primer colors. If the paint on your garage is a dark color use a dark color putty. Also get a plastic putty knife. Apply the putty to the chip area in thin coats until you fill the chip. Let dry, wet sand again then paint your finished color. Hope that helps.

Scrape off the loose paint then sand the surface just enough to take down the high surface areas. After sanding wash the whole door with a TSP solution and let dry. Then use a paint primer followed by the the paint color of your choice. Be sure you don’t use latex paint if the original paint is oil based. Oil based paint can be used over latex or oil based paints where latex paint should only be used to cover latex paint.
