if the deck is off of house (attached) and built right u could attach ledger board to house and build a pergola
I would build another deck on the lower level to accommodate the pergola and shade that you want plus any additional seating you need..you will end up with a two tiered deck
Thanks. That sounds like a good option.
I had the same problem so I put a 4x4 post on the top of one of the railings to put up a sail. I know it sounds yucky but it really looks awesome when the wind blows and it provides just the right amount of shade.
Good luck
Try a sail patio cover. No post needed and it attaches to house. Less $ too.
Thanks for the š” idea!
I agree with above comment on the sails. They are pretty amazing and reasonably priced. You can find them at stores but would find a better selection on line. You can also get a retracktable awning. They are a little more pricey but are great if you want to have potted plants on your deck that require some sun.
Have you thought about using an old rv awning, material if torn is replacable. I have seen some on craigslist, from an old salvaged rv. They also roll out when you need them, and on windy days they will close up.
No I Don't sorry , I take them down for the winter. Feel free to contact me again this spring when I put them back up and I will send a photo. I love them
