Help! My Slate Porch Floor Needs Some Serious Tlc.

My home has a slate floor on the porch that needs repair. My husband and I are do it yourselfers but this is a project we may not be ready for. We'very asked a couple of professional friends who really don't want to repair it and we don't want to spend thousands on a whole new floor. What should we do to repair this corner where the weather has really done a number! We would then like to seal the entire floor and would like help on deciding what materials to use. Thank you so much for any advice.

Oh dear, I've had professionals they didn't wan to do certain things on my hardwood floor extension that I've you-tubed and done with no problem. My first inclination is to do a concrete overlay to even things out, if you don't want to dig that up as it would be a messy project. But, I don't think it would be that bad to dig it up. It looks worse than it is for DIY'ers who have the time.. If you opt for the overlay, once you've got the concrete down, you can do anything. Concrete can look gorgeous with all the options availabe, but my guess is you can add some type of flooring on top of that. It may seem like the easy way out, but changing it down the road would only mean digging it up, the same thing you'd have to do now.

    • Thanks for your thoughts. I don't want to spend the money on a whole new floor, or the time and effort to repair the whole thing. I just want to repair the corner section. The stones are loose and I have extra stones I can also use. I would like to take up the stones on that corner section and put down cement o r mortar and reinstall the slates I just don't know how to go about it.

and that will be beautiful! But, it's so easy to go overboard on advise sometimes... and fun to explore! I found a couple of sites that may help. But, hopefully you get some really good advice, too!

    • Thank you so much for the links. The ask the builder link seems to give some great information. When I get the time I think my husband and I will tackle this project. Maybe in the fall since the article says cooler weather is best, and that gives me and excuse to put it off a little longer
