William on May 17, 2016I did this for a client after talking with management if it was acceptable. Their balcony has a metal railing. I purchase plastic lattice panels, used plastic wire ties and attached them to the railing. It blocked some of the view, but still allowed light to get thru. But it also created a private area for them. Management approved.Helpful Reply

Judy Capone Mantell on May 18, 2016You can use plants to create both a lovely private garden as well as screen from neighbors. They can also help reduce noise, sun, second hand smoke, etc. Light soft curtains on a shower rod can help, bamboo screens, a small fountain to tone down noise, etc. can also be useful. A couple of wicker chairs and a small table with some plants...heaven! https://www.pinterest.com/explore/balcony-privacy/Helpful Reply

Claudette J Rancifer on May 18, 2016Thank you so much for the great suggestions. I believe tension rods could be used and Management has said that they could make changes as long as the any changes are restored when he leaves. Thanks againHelpful Reply

Lynne Krywulycz on May 21, 2016There is a great post at the bottom of this page (on my pc anyway) which shows bamboo screen used to fill in the porch area railing which would work and may not be too costly. Then you could top this with uprights and top rails with translucent curtains (shower curtains are waterproof). Added bonus extends living room space.Helpful Reply
