How do you enclose a patio?

  4 answers
  • Carefully! Do you want a screened porch or another room? First you have to determine if the current patio slab is to code and will support the structure. Determine exactly what your needs are, including gas, plumbing and electrical. Get bids from licensed contractors. Here is how to hire a licensed contractor.

you may need to submit your plans to the city/ county/state for approval. check on that. I once lived in a town that had to have "x" amount of green space to hard scaping. you may need to acquire certain permits to build if water, gas lines etc are needed.

carefully. you start with the building plans for it. those plans may need to be approved, and all safety codes need to be met. depending on area that can take a few weeks. some contractors will do this for you, others not. studs need to be spaced correctly, hvac vents need to be installed for heating and cooling, insulation need to in place, electric boxes in place and wired correctly. this is if you are wanting to convert it to another room.

if you want a screened in room, the studs need to go in and the screen stapled to the studs. put screening under the patio if its elevated,
