How should I spruce up my old wood paneling?

My Dad gave me this home, with this 70's wood paneling. I use Liquid Gold for shine. But, ya know. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Would you consider a "white wash" using watered down paint? If it is the "shiny kind" just degrease the Liquid Gold and paint. You can paint it any color you would paint your room. I like the look of the vertical lines.

Painting it white will do wonders to brighten up the space!

    Paint

Make sure the paneling is clean and dry. Prime with a good stain blocking primer like Kilz. Then paint like painting regular walls. Acrilyc latex paint will work. If the paneling has grooves you can fill them with non shrink drywall patching compound. Just put on enough to fill the grooves. Let it dry overnight. Next day use a damp sponge to smooth the patch. Then prime and paint.

I painted the paneling in my daughter's bedroom about 20 years ago and it has held up very well. I just cleaned, primed with Kilz Original and then painted two coats with Behr paint. You might try one wall as an accent.
