How to make my small area of steps and porch appealing?

My front of the house is right up on the road in our culdelac .

My small home front steps, sadly needs lots
of help,
Street is right there where you see the dark shadow.
Wild strawberries took over this area, there are sewer covers hidden under it also.
What you see going out front door and turning right to the steps.

A railing on the porch with a big pot of big colorful flowers in the outside corner. Put another big pot under it on the ground. You could hang flowers on the post. A light beside the door. I can't see the door, but a nice door with decorative glass in it.

I would put up a section of white painted lattice, positioned vertically, to enclose the top of the porch and to give some privacy to the entry. A nice pot of flowers on the outer side of each step would add some colour. Placing a decorative piece attached to the wall just outside the door would give additional interest. A wreath of artificial flowers that you could change seasonally or something that reflects an interest of your family, as long as it is fairly flat to the wall, and would not get in the way of entering your home would add a nice touch.

I see that you have a hook for a planter on the side of the wall, I would actually hang a large fern or somethingthat takes up space directly across from the front door and from the center of the porch frame not on the side. Then clear out the kids toys. It looks like your garage is out in that side of home put toys in their to allow you to place a bench or large tall planters along the side where bike is now. Wild strawberries lucky you, yummy. But you can get tall shepherds hooks to continue hanging plants with color to draw eye up and place in the area with the strawberries. Is that your dead Christmas tree?! Obviously clear that out to keep things tidy and inviting. Remove small short blue plant holder thing altogether. Like I said draw eye up and since shade stick to plants for shade so that it will be a successful thriving plant. I'm surprised that you dont have a rail their to keep people from falling off porch. Add one. Either make or buy premade.

Dianne, good news is that your home has so much potential. So many options you can do. I would definitely accentuate the black metal you have around your porch (your porch light, house numbers and the light beside your house numbers). A pretty metal wall art on the right wall as you face your front door would welcome guests. A colorful outside rug that covers the entire area by your front door would also be inviting. Also, consider painting your cement steps and porch. There are some beautiful paints made just for patios. I would remove the plant hook from the porch and paint the column and just the underside of the wood trim that surrounds your porch, the same color that the trim around your front door is painted. I notice that your outside light has the same color trim behind it. A railing of some kind should definitely be used for the porch to keep the unsuspecting visitor from falling of your porch. Perhaps continue with the black wrought iron theme? As for the small sidewalk area against your home, consider changing out the little blue plant holder for a metal bench. You could sit there and watch your children play or visit with your neighbors.

Paint your door a favorite bright color, go to a Hobby Lobby and get a wall hanging to put to the left of the door. This could be colorful dragonflies or a rose compass. You could use an old ironing board to the right of the door that says Welcome painted on it from top to bottom. You could find an old bench and place it over the pipe in the strawberry area, paint it to match your door, then put a shepherds hook on both sides of it with hanging pots.
