Is it surrounded by brick on the walls? Or are the bricks on the floor? If wall, power wash if you can first, let dry well then put a coat of white paint in an 'open' pattern (do every third or fourth brick. leave any dark or blackened brick the way they are for accent) step back see where you need more white and paint accordingly. It really brightens up a space. this would have been for a covered patio. For the floor, go to the hardware store and get a good cleaner, primer and paint.

Maybe the brick just needs to be cleaned, and broken ones replaced? Also more sand added? Bleach is one cleaner. White vinegar can be used. Diluted Muriatic acid (HCL)is also used to clean brick - but very carefully .

if you don't want to remove the brick, build a small deck structure over it- or replace the broken bricks, add sand, and level out
