Treated lumber aged a year unfinished. I just want the most durable-with the least work needed, to stay nice looking the longest.

how well it stains or paints depends if it's a treated lumber...do get tester samples of the paint/ stain and try them on a piece scrap lumber left over from the build.

just finished a paint job for my aunt....and scraped off the remnant of paint on the treated lumber with my fingernails.

Semi transparent deck stain. will absorb inti the wood and protect the surface. Most decks do need to be maintained at least every four years depending on location and local weather conditions.

I can recommend Benjamin Moore Arborcoat Exterior Stain. It comes in clear, translucent, semi-transparent, semi-solid and solid, so you can get the coverage you like. Translucent comes in six colors including silver-gray, while semi-transparent and semi-solid come in 75 colors, and solid comes in thousands of colors. We used semi-transparent on our deck and I've been very happy with how well it's held up.
