Outdoor covered chairs

Does anyone have any advice or knowledge about rain/water resistant covers for outdoor chairs? I am a novice sewer but love the look of $400.00 waterproof vinyl chairs, but do not have the budget for something of that cost. Anyone with ideas...??

I have covered mine with oil cloth, and it has stood up to the rain. Its cheap and comes in some lovely designs, but it is difficult to sew.

Another less expensive option is to use the plastic, flannel back tablecloths.

JoAnns carries outdoor canvas that has a water repellent covering on it. It would be stronger than oilcloth or plastic. The seam wont tear like it would on the plastic.

Have you thought about Sunbrella or other indoor/outdoor fabric? If you use it you also have to use outdoor foam so the water goes right through the cushion. No fading or staining though.

@Jenifermacfarland Thank you Ill check that out. I only have a standard inexpensive sewing machine and not so much sewing expertise. But worth researching, thank you again for the suggestion, I love Sunbrella

I would look for free or used ones in decent shape, then spray paint the fabric with a weather resistant paint... I found some at an auto body shop ;)

If you sew any kind of fabric spray coats of weather resistant spray on them for added protection. Spray a few times through out the season.
