I had one client use a frosted film and apply it to the sidelights. It gave some privacy but still allowed lots of light to come through.
Stained glass to match tha house
Google ODL.com. it is a company in Zeeland,MI. They make a 'fit over for sidelights. Take about 10" to install and zero damage to the didelight itself. It looks like it's part of the didelight. Is a glass framed panel with a mini blind. Eith a simple slide on the side, you can raise or lower the blind. With the other slide, can open or tilt shut the louvers. We love ours. Can order from company. They even deliver for pickup at Walmart. Also available at Lowe's. I purchased for less than $120, Lowe's had to match Wal-Mart price.
I used Clear Gallery Glass on my side lights. Put it on with my fingers really thick, let it dry and you've got privacy, but still lets the light in. Images from outside in look distorted and from inside out distorted as well. I saw this on Pinterest quite a while ago and tried it and love it. Easy to get off if you don't like it. Just get you some Clear Gallery Glass and a piece of glass out of an old frame and give it a try before doing the whole side light.
