I would not, unless you plan on replacing it at the end of the season. The heat and humidity will cause the wood to swell and the veneer and the vinyl to crack.
You could try putting a varathane for outdoor use. but the water could find it's way under the veneer and may end up buckling anyway. It could also be particleboard under the veneer which wouldn't do well outside.
Rustoleum makes a product that makes whatever you paint waterproof. There is also a product you find in the paint section that also waterproofs things and comes in a clear coat. I think if you use either of these or anything that seals as well as waterproofs you should be okay
Try marine varnish but you'll need at least three or four coats.
