What is the best way to “redo” a small cracked cement patio?

I have tried to patch the cracks over the years...nothing stuck well. Plants grow up in the cracks. Large tree cut down out of this cement patio years ago. Would like to keep a fire pit area.
One thing you can do; is use the concrete patio as a base for pavers.... assuming that it is basically level... of course... you can use construction adhesive on the outer rows to make sure the center ones don't move.
That looks like an expansion joint for the concrete. Am I missing something?
