What is the best way to spiff up a LARGE outdoor, concrete patio?

I have a large concrete patio that is subject to 100 degree days in summer and below freezing with snow in the winter. What is the best paint/stain to use? Also can you layer the colors? I would like to paint it so it looks like there are Persian rugs scattered about vs. an all-over pattern. So I am thinking you paint a rectangle and then use a stencil to add colorful details on top. I know if I use regular outdoor paint it will likely be peeling within a year or two.

There are several colors you can roll your patio. They have colors, and colors with glitter. Some say their toxic if used indoors, but that's not the case here. Homedepot has this kind of paint, which I'm sure you'll like. Take some samples home and decide. I don't remember the name of the paint, or the color options.
