  • We used paver stones as a border around ours. It is tiring work but looks good. You could also make a border with crushed stone or pea gravel.

Larger landscaping bricks like you can get at Lowe's. If want to make a fancy pattern can get different colors & size just make sure when digging ground you r going to lay them down accounts if differing heights. Can use sand/pea gravel or crushed stone. Is a lot of work however a lot cheaper then having more concrete laid.

Depends on proposed usage I suppose. Prior ideas work well just to enlarge; however, you might want to get creative. Add a cabana covered food shack at one end. Picnic tables, or fire pit area at another or create zones around the smaller area.

Add storage seating, built in grill or food island with seating to outer side. Pier based bench. Combo of above. Small Children, add a hop scotch zone or race car roadway similar to some of those car roadway carpets. Add a section leading to raised planting bed with seating. Add a bench with shade back/privacy covering. Pier based rail at height for plates and drinks while standing. Add a water feature or plant/privacy wall or nook.

I've seen square 'wood tiles' used around a brick patio. You can mix and match the patterns. Make them 18x8 and you've go your 3 foot extension. Would be eat to make them out of pallet wood too. You need to put the tiles on top of a layer of crushed stone for drainage. The mx of textures (brick and wood) would be different
