Will it hurt to cover my deck with a tarp before it snows?

I live in snowy WI. will it harm my composite deck boards if I cover them up before it snows? How about animals? If I do not cover up to the house , will it be ok to prevent animal damage to the foundation? Thx.

The deck is made to be outside. Composite deck boards are made with recycled wood and resins. Covering it up may trap moisture which can cause mold to grow and possibly deteriorate the boards. I would not cover it up. If you need to go out on it in the winter just clean the snow off.

shouldn’t hurt your deck any, but if you have any strong winds you’re tarp may get ripped up before the snow hits to hold the tarp down? I’m not sure what you mean about animal damage to your foundation though? Any animal with claws could still rip your tarp and scratch your decking? Have you had damage in the past from animals? If yes, are we talking dogs or a wild larger animal? I’m curious why your concern of damage?

Snow on top of a tarp is an accident waiting to happen... most composite decking is designed to handle all types of weather.
