I decided to make my own post box because I couldn't find one that matched my needs. I started off buying a box that was in the shape of a book. This proved to be perfect because it was important for me to rotate the box to flip open from the top horizontally.
I used sealant to paint the box and protect the wood from sun and rain damage.
I cut a pvc drain pipe I had at home, and painted the box and pipe the same colour. Obviously you can decide on colours of your choosing.
I attached this hinge at the top to allow me to use a lock. I drilled 2 holes in the pipe and in the bottom of the box to attach the pipe to the box. I drilled 4 holes in the back of the box to attach the post box to the outside wall.
The end result, super proud of my accomplishment. I took longer than anticipated to finish this project because I tried out different ways to affix everything.
Suggested materials:
  • Wooden box that I purchased from a craft store   (Mall@Carnival in Brakpan, Gauteng, South Africa)
  • I used screws, bolts and material that I had at home.
