Exterior Shutters Transform A 90s Home

2 Materials
I always thought the front of our home was missing something. New board and batten exterior shutters have transformed the plain exterior of our 90s builder house. We love how these custom shutters look on our home.
My husband drew up a design for the shutters. He decided they needed to be three boards wide. He measured each window. It turns out that they are each different. He joined the sets of boards with battens cut to width.
We laid out each shutter in the garage to prime and paint.
My husband went to the hardware store to discuss with a sales associate the best way to hang these on the brick. They sold him special anchors and spacers so that the wood doesn't rest against the brick.
We love how these make our home look like a French country cottage.
